A Mom and Her Teenage Daughter Convert a Vintage RV Camper Van Into Their Dream Home on Wheels

While some parents might balk at the idea of their teenage daughter moving out, Francine and her daughter, Sarah, embrace it. In order to make their tiny 112-square-foot vintage RV camper van feel like home, Francine and Sarah had to get creative and build out every inch of space they could find with functional elements that would make living tiny manageable—and even fun! Here’s how they made their dream come true, one clever and cool custom camper van feature at a time…

Why We Chose Our R.V.

We knew we wanted something small and intimate that we could customize to our own liking. After much research, we decided that a vintage RV camper van would be the perfect fit for us. We found one in great condition and got to work turning it into our dream home on wheels. Now, we spend our days exploring new places and enjoying quality time together in our little slice of heaven.

Buying A Used R.V.

When you’re looking to buy a used RV, there are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind. First, you’ll want to make sure that the RV is in good condition and has all the features you’re looking for. Second, you’ll want to be sure to negotiate the price down as much as possible. Third, you’ll want to get insurance for your RV. Fourth, you’ll want to make sure that the previous owner has all the maintenance records.

Spending Time Inside Our New R.V. (The Bad Stuff First)

We’re all packed into this little space, and it’s not always easy. There are moments when we’re all sitting in the main living area and someone needs to use the restroom. So, we all have to get up and move out of the way so that person can squeeze by. Then there are times when we’re trying to sleep and one of us is snoring really loudly. But, overall, it’s been a great experience getting to know each other better and spending more quality time together.

Our Camping Rituals

My daughter and I have always loved spending time together outdoors. When she was younger, we would go on camping trips with her father and brothers. Now that she’s a teenager, we’ve started going on our own camping trips together. We love spending time in nature, hiking, swimming, and just enjoying each other’s company. Our favorite part of camping is sitting around the campfire at night, telling stories and making s’mores.

Best Features of Our R.V. Living Space (A Rare Personal Post!)

We didn’t know how much we would love living in our camper van until we hit the open road. We love the freedom it gives us to travel wherever we want, whenever we want. Plus, it’s a great way to bond as a family. Here are some of our favorite features of our new home on wheels.

The Future of Our Home on Wheels

As we continue to travel across the country, we’ll be updating this blog with photos and stories of our adventures. We hope to inspire other families to convert their own vintage RVs into homes on wheels and explore all that this great country has to offer!
